THE MISSION OF
THE COUNTY PROSECUTOR
The County Prosecutor holds a public office created by the New Jersey
Constitution and is appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate for a five
year term. Working under the authority of the Attorney General, the Prosecutor is the Chief Law Enforcement
Officer of the County.
The Prosecutor is responsible to use all reasonable and lawful diligence in the detection, arrest,
indictment and conviction of persons who commit criminal offenses in the County. Along with this
duty is the duty to prevent crime and, thereby, improve the quality of life of the citizens of the County.
The Prosecutor employs a staff of Assistant Prosecutors, County Investigators, and a clerical and
support staff of sufficient strength to enable the office to carry out its statutory duties.
